Individual Psychotherapy

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

~Confucius

Feeling lost and unsure

You don’t want to burden anyone with your problems. “If I just push through, things will eventually get better.” Until now, you’ve figured things out for yourself.

But now, you feel like you’ve lost your way. You hope you’ll feel better soon; some time in the future. You give yourself a few more days, weeks, months, or maybe even years. You tell yourself, “It will pass, and somehow I will find my way again!”

Sometimes the need to re-examine your life shows up gradually. You become more and more aware that your responsibilities are burdensome, your worries keep you up at night, and feel anxious during the day. You can no longer catch a break.

Alternatively, you feel unmotivated, restless, and disillusioned. You may have lost sight of your dreams or simply lost interest in what you used to feel was important or meaningful.

A crisis can be a trigger

Sometimes major crises in one’s life can precipitate negative feelings and a sense of hopelessness. Divorce, illness, loss of a job, an affair, a sick child, and loss of a spouse or parent can make you re-examine your priorities. You realize that you don’t have an unlimited amount of time.

Seeking advice and counsel from an objective and outside source can help you examine what’s going on inside.

Voicing feelings and finding solutions

Having someone to listen to your inner thoughts, validate your feelings, and challenge you to explore and understand the source of those feelings is invaluable. This is the benefit of individual psychotherapy.

Individual psychotherapy is a collaborative process that involves us working together. We meet for 50 minutes weekly. Sometimes more frequently. I listen carefully to understand your reasons for starting therapy and your hope for what you want to take away from it.

From week to week, we discuss your interpersonal interactions and internal feelings that bother you. We look more deeply at your experiences to understand how they affect you.

Practice makes perfect

With practice, you develop a greater ability to see yourself in action but from a more objective perspective. You get to know yourself in new ways with more clarity. You start to feel more flexible and confident in handling what life throws in your path.

While this is your journey to take…

… you don’t have to take it alone.
